Central Florida Cardiology Group Provides Notice of Data Security Incident

Orlando, Florida – Orlando Sentinel– Central Florida Cardiology Group (“CFCG”) is a private practice that treats cardiology conditions with multiple locations throughout the state of Florida. CFCG is providing notice that one of its vendors experienced a cybersecurity incident that may involve the personal and protected health information of some patients it serves. As such, notification of this incident was sent to potentially impacted individuals and CFCG is providing resources to assist them. CFCG sincerely regrets any inconvenience that this incident may cause and remains dedicated to protecting all personal and health information.

Although we have no evidence that anyone’s personal information has been misused, CFCG is providing details about the events, steps taken in response, and resources available to individuals to protect against the potential misuse of their information. Out of an abundance of caution, CFCG has provided individual notifications to potentially impacted persons but is providing this notice for anyone for whom we do not have a current mailing address.

What Happened:
Central Florida Cardiology Group (“CFCG”) was notified by one of its vendors, IBERIABANK, on January 7, 2022 about a data security incident affecting one of its service providers, Technology Management Resources, Inc. (“TMR”). CFCG has a lockbox service with IBERIABANK for collecting and processing payments from its customers and/or patients. IBERIABANK uses TMR as a third‐party lockbox service provider to process payments and capture pertinent payment data for items received in the lockbox. This incident did not affect CFCG’s internal computer systems.

On October 14, 2021, TMR discovered that a TMR employee’s user account had been compromised. Upon discovery of the incident, TMR reported that they secured the account and began an investigation in consultation with external cybersecurity professionals. TMR has stated that their investigation determined that the threat actor may have accessed bytes associated with certain images for lockbox payments and related documents containing potential Protected Health Information (PHI) related to customers of the Company.

What Information Was Involved:
TMR’s investigation confirmed that patient information may have been subject to unauthorized access. The patient information was limited to patients’ names, social security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial account information, credit/debit card information, and/or health information. Please note that not all data elements were present for every individual.

What We Are Doing:

At this time, there is no evidence that any information has been misused as a result of this incident. CFCG takes the security of all the information in its control very seriously, and is taking steps to prevent a similar event from occurring in the future.

IBERIABANK is offering complimentary credit monitoring to the affected individuals. TMR reports that they have taken several corrective actions to remediate the security incident, prevent a further security incident, and mitigate the effects of the security incident. According to TMR, TMR credentials have been reset or deactivated (as applicable). CFCG is in the process of switching from IBERIABANK to another lockbox service.

The notification letter to the potentially impacted individuals includes steps that they can take to protect their information. In order to address any patient concerns and mitigate any exposure or risk of harm following this Incident, IBIREBANK has arranged for complimentary credit monitoring services and identity theft protection services to all potentially impacted patients at no cost to them. CFCG recommends that individuals enroll in the services provided and follow the recommendations contained within the notification letter to ensure their information is protected.

What You Can Do:
As a precautionary measure, CFCG recommends that individuals remain vigilant by closely reviewing their account statements and credit reports. If individuals detect any suspicious activity on an account, CFCG strongly encourages individuals to promptly notify their financial institution. In addition, individuals should may report any fraudulent activity or any suspected incident of identity theft to law enforcement, their State Attorney General, and/or the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). To file a complaint or to contact the FTC, you can (1) send a letter to the Federal Trade Commission, Consumer Response Center, 600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, D.C.; or (2) go to IdentityTheft.gov/databreach; or (3) call 1-877-ID-THEFT (877-438-4338). Complaints filed with the FTC will be added to the FTC’s Identity Theft Data Clearinghouse, a database made available to law enforcement agencies.
